Speed Racer Announced for Distribution on Crunchyroll
The Crunchyroll video-streaming website announced yesterday that it will offer the Speed Racer animated series via ad-supported, subscription, and download-to-own video services. The press release states that the car-racing series will be available to watch starting yesterday, but only three trailers for this year’s live-action movie, the original opening theme, and an anime music video are on the website as of 6:00 p.m. ET. In addition to online streaming, the website plans to offer both individual episodes and digital “boxsets” with special extras through a download-to-own service. The downloads in this service will have no digital rights management (DRM).
Speed Racer is the fourth Japanese animated project that the website announced that it is authorized to distribute, after DLE’s Eagle Talon and Gonzo’s upcoming The Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk and Blassreiter television series. Speed Racer is based on Hiroshi Sasagawa and Tatsunoko Production’s 1967-1968 Mach Go Go Go television series.
